One Mistake

A homeless man sits on the street,
Shivering in the mighty cold.
Blue, the colour of his lips and feet,
An empty cup  he does hold.

He quietly asks for little donations,
No one stops to give him a dime.
We just walk by without hesitations,
But why doesn't he deserve our time?

All he wants is something to eat,
He's not asking for a full banquet.
Maybe a safe place with some heat,
He would really appreciate a blanket.

All he did was make one little mistake,
It cost him his house, kids and wife.
Now he's desperate for a break,
We all deserve a second chance in life.

So next time you walk down that street,
Be kind, show him you actually care.
A warm coat? A hat? Or socks for his feet,
He's trying his best in so life so unfair.

Sunsets

For a beautiful and very brave friend, who loves sunsets just as much as me.

Could there be a more beautiful sight?
Colours of pink and orange fill the sky!
The sun filtering through the clouds,
A time to stop and breath, or at least try.

The most beautiful ending to the day,
Sunsets make you feel all so calm.
They make you feel warm and happy,
It's like you hold the world in your palm.

The bright warm sun falls lower,
Giving way to the stars and moon.
Dusk falls along the entire landscape,
Twinkling lights will appear soon.

It's time for majestic elegant owls to fly,
Darkness is here, but there's still light.
The moon shines big and bright for you,
The dancing stars never leave your sight.

Family Values

Families are special, especially mine,
We are all different and that's fine.
We don't really all live near,
This sometimes brings me fear.

My dad is funny but sometimes has a grumpy face,
He is cool and takes me to the go kart so we can race.
My mum worries a lot but only because she cares,
She is kind as well, her sweets she always shares.

My brother has an imaginative mind,
Most of the time he is usually kind.
He can be funny or a pain in the neck...
But he's my little brother so what the heck.

My aunts are all completely mad,
But they cheer me up when I am sad.
They are the best listeners I could find,
They all have big hearts that are kind.

My uncles are kind, cool and giving,
They show me the adventures of living.
My uncles are really great guys,
They never ever fail to surprise.

My cousins help me out when they can,
They come up with some awesome plans.
We have a joke and generally mess around,
Chatting, playing, just acting like clowns.

My Grandad I love with all my heart,
Even though now we are far apart.
My Grandma is full of energy and fun,
She'll still walk with us under the sun.

My extended family mean the world to me,
We have jokes and laughs it's easy to see.
We all have such fun when we're together,
Laughing and joking whatever the weather.

My extended family are really really cool,
Some do act, occasionally like a bit of a fool.
We don't see each other a lot, we live far away,
But I love you all is what I wanted  to say.

My Godfathers and Godmothers are there as well,
Kindness, honesty and friendship to me they sell.
They always there and give me loads of hugs,
No one ever turns me away or ever shrugs.

My family is extremely special to me,
Even though we don't always agree.
We're all there through ups and downs,
We  help each other out, we act like clowns.

Thank you to all my family,
For all that you do.
I wrote this poem to say,
I love you!

Nostalgia

Now you're gone it's easy to see,
How very special you were to me.
Still as special even though you're gone,
I think of you when I hear our song.

The brightest star in the dark night sky,
I wish I was with you, I wish I could fly.
Without you here I feel all alone,
I wish I could talk to you on the phone.

When someone you love dies,
It leaves tear drops in your eyes.
You feel all sad and blue,
But you manage to see it through.

It leaves a hole in your heart,
Because now you are far apart.
it leaves your heart broken,
You keep memories as a token.

You sit alone and you cry,
You tell everyone you're fine, you lie.
That moment stops the clock,
You look to the stars in shock.

The whole world stops still,
You lose all hope and all will.
But then you start to smile,
Remembering good times for a while.

Fighter

When times become rough,
And the fight becomes tough.
Please  don't give up hope,
I promise you'll learn to cope.

Just hold on a little tighter,
You're a natural born fighter.
It will all turn out okay,
Soon you will see a brighter day.

You'll soon see that light,
All the good coming into sight.
So get up, brush yourself down,
And get rid of that frown.

Life is just like a song,
Make it up as you go along.
Not one will be the same,
We're all playing one huge game.

A game you can win!

Protect Your Team

Through all the good and the bad,
You must protect your team.
Your job is to keep them safe,
As hard as it may seem.

Don't let them slip away,
Hold on to them real tight.
Keep them out of danger,
Don't let them out of sight.

Please just keep them safe,
Please don't let them fall.
They are your best team,
Help them stand nice and tall.

Keep them all safe,
Just protect your team.
Make them feel safe,
Make their faces beam.

A Garden Of Flowers

I am sat in a garden,
Surrounded by flowers.
It's so calm and peaceful,
I could stay for hours.

Each one a different colour,
Each one a different smell.
Each one is beautiful,
Each one had a tale to tell.

The sun shine in the sky,
Drops of dew fall like tears.
As the warm sun kisses my skin,
I forget about all of my fears.

The flowers sway softly in the wind,
In the distance church bells ring.
If I close my eyes and listen,
I can hear the choir begin to sing.

As the bell strikes a fourth time,
I know it's time for me to go home.
I know the next time I'll be here again,
This garden of flowers will be overgrown.

Dear Grandad...

I never intended to publish this poem, I wrote this poem a little over a month ago, for my grandad who was ill. I sent it on Wednesday 25th of February and it arrived at my Grandparent's house on Friday the 27th; unfortunately the circle of life took it's course, Grandad died on the 26th of February, he never got to read his poem. The poem got read out at his funeral, so now, one month after we lost Grandad I am laying his poem to rest.

Dear Grandad,
All life must come to an end,
So to be happy I won't pretend.
I'll miss you when you have to go,
Because I love you so much so.

Thank you for all you have done,
For so many days of fun,
I'll forever carry you in my heart,
It doesn't matter if we are far apart.

I think of you whenever I see a star,
It worries me that right now we are so far.
I'll always remember all the fun we had,
You are my hero, did you know grandad?

Whenever I needed you gave me a hug,
Never once did you turn away and shrug.
You knew how to stop all of my tears,
You made me overcome all of my fears.

Thank you for standing right by my side,
"He's my Grandad" I always say with pride.
I appreciate all you've done and all you do,
So I wrote this poem just for you!

Love you Grandad xx

"A thousand words won't bring you back, I know because I've tried; Nor will a thousand tears, I know because I've cried. If love alone could have saved you you never would have died."  Sleep tight Grandad.

Taking Flight

Beautiful colours fill the sky,
A young family of birds learning to fly.
As the youngest eagle spreads it's wings,
A group of mocking bird begins to sing.

A purple butterfly lands right by my side,
Carrying such beauty, carrying such pride.
The butterfly starts fluttering it's wings,
The family  of mocking birds continues to sing.

Under his mothers' watchful eye,
As he leaps I can't help but sigh.
The young eagle flies round and round,
Without transmitting a single sound.

After hearing his mothers' call,
He slowly glides trying not to fall.
Landing softly back in the nest,
Now it is time for him to rest.

As the day gives way to the night,
The stars will soon be shinning bright.
He doesn't know what tomorrow will bring,
The family of mocking birds continues to sing.

The Bond Of A Cousin

A poem for my baby cousin who I don't get to see very often and is growing up far to fast...

I held your little hand,
I counted your little toes.
I tickled your little feet,
I kissed your little nose.

We've read fun stories,
I got to kiss you good night,
We've watched funny movies,
I get to cuddle you tight.

Everyday you grow more and more,
I still love you as much as day one.
Reading books or playing games,
We continue to have loads of fun.

We don't get to see you much anymore,
I wish you didn't live so far away.
Each cuddle goodbye breaks my heart,
Living opposite us I wish you would stay.

Be reassured my special little man,
No matter how far apart we are.
No matter how many oceans between us,
You'll always be my little star.

I'll always be there to help you out,
For my entire life I'll stand by your side.
In whatever you manage to achieve,
"That's my cousin" I'll say with pride!

Chin Up

When things are tough,
And you struggle to cope.
Please, Please promise me,
You'll never give up hope.

Forget about your worries,
And remember to smile.
You will feel better,
Even just for a while.

Pick yourself back up,
Smile those worries away.
The more you smile,
The further away they stay.

Cry a little if you must,
But never for to long.
Take a nice deep breath,
Remember: You are strong.

There's no need to be sad,
Turn that frown upside down.
Keep your chin up now,
Or you'll lose your crown.
